Narrative Description of Project:

The project has addressed diversified with communities whose are of exposed to extreme poverty in their every day life. These issues have supported the communities to build up their understanding on entitlement, creation of livelihood options, exploration of community‟s power into potential non-formal institution, promotion in health, hygiene and nutrition, more inclusion of women in development initiatives, formulation of collaborative relationship with relevant Nation Building Departments (NBD), and Local Elected Bodies (LEB) and extend development assistance in times of disaster. Goal To sustainabily reduce chronic and transitory food security of targeted vulnerable households of 2 Upazillas of Chittagong district and 2 wards of Chittagong City Corporation. Objectives Improved availability and economic access to food for targeted vulnerable households through strengthening livelihoods, securing entitlements and enhancing accountability of service providers. Narrative Description of Project

Through comprehensive cultural intervention BITA experienced that the continuous process of awareness raising and motivation in changing behavior, attitude, values, norms, beliefs of the community people towards children and their rights brought a qualitative change and created a demand for social accountability. The intervention of the project aimed to create responsiveness and accountability among the local governance institutions like Union Parishad, and City Corporation for ensuring services regarding child rights. Through the project intervention it has been understood by these local government structure that there should have adequate program structure to incorporate intervention framework to address children‟s access to basic public services. Psychosocial competence has an important role in the promotion of education, health, physical, mental and social well being of the children. CR focus initiative of the project has developed the psychosocial competence and life skill.

Goal

Children of targeted communities are protected form violation of their rights.

Purpose – Boys and girls from the vulnerable section are enjoying basic services provided by the public and social institutions – Community of targeted areas are practicing positive societal value, norms and practices which promote child rights – Children are empowering to assert their rights

Narrative Description of Project

BITA believed that cultural education and practices are equally important in strengthening democratic process that enhances the mainstream development of Bangladesh. Moreover, Human rights and democratic education through cultural approach can foster mutual understanding, respect, and involvement of different groups including religious minorities, ethnic community, deprived women and children that contribute in building identity of the people. Based on the experience, BITA initiated the project aiming to mobilize the community as well as to make the grassroots cultural groups knowledgeable and capable to identify and visualize the human rights issues that will make sensitivity amongst the mass people as well as the counterpart of the service delivery process. In this respect, through an integrated approach the project targeted the grass root cultural groups, folk artists, community theatre group, relevant NGOs, local government institution and other institutional partners.

Narrative Description of Project

The aim of the project is to address trafficking in children, adolescent girls and women in Bangladesh through coordinated and integrated interventions. The project has four major components: prevention, protection, prosecution and capacity building. Through raising awareness of the general public as well as specific targeted groups and creating income generation opportunities for the vulnerable people, the project aims to prevent trafficking in persons. The project has also worked with the judicial and law enforcement agencies officials and local government to foster prosecution of human trafficking. At the end of the project the expected outcomes will be effective prevention mechanism developed in the project areas.

Narrative Description of Project

BITA wished to build public opinion on local government issues through different interactive initiatives to establish a sub national level campaign that will deepen public discussion on the current local government issues. Keeping the point in consideration BITA addressed some innovative approaches for creating a new standpoint about the concept of local government initiatives in Bangladesh. Campaign initiatives and information material would be performed by different local level organizations, which in the long run may contribute to the establishment of a sub national level networking for advocating good governance. BITA initiated its approach through promotional activities at sub national level that would bring desired impact at national level through public sensitization in strengthening local government as a process of consolidating democratic practice in Bangladesh.

Goal

  • To contribute to the development of a broad-based awareness and interest among the common people in favor of local government issues.

Objectives

    • To build public awareness about the importance of local government issues, especially good governance.

Narrative Description of Project

BITA, through it‟s experience from mobilization initiatives for community people felt that the destitute and disadvantaged women of rural Bangladesh belongs a poor access to proper social justice system. So it was realized that the arbitration process of UP, village court and community would be strengthen for creating a conducive atmosphere in regards to reducing vulnerability of rural women. The project initiatives were subjected to built capacity of Local Government Representatives, Village Court, ADRC (Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee) members for arbitration process. Local government institutions had the opportunities to be in practice of gender based arbitration process and mechanism. BITA conducted courtyard meeting with the participation of mass people in regards to disseminate information about rights.

Narrative Description of Project

BITA realized that culture is a powerful approach in development process. It would play more effective role in human development. With this realization, BITA implemented its program to boost up consciousness level of people through cultural activities mainly of the marginalized communities of the society. Eventually, BITA developed a project intervention focusing to create awareness on human rights amongst marginalized people in rural area through motivating and mobilizing local government representatives. The project successfully accomplished interaction and networking with the organizations working in relation with Human Rights through cultural initiatives. It could be done through organizing people, collecting information on human rights violation by socio-cultural watchdog, highlighting human rights issues through cultural activities. Besides this, BITA utilized the media of theatre and folk media for educating of human rights so that the following steps could be ensured to strengthen and spread out the cultural initiatives for improving the situation of human rights.

Narrative Description of Project

BITA feels that a comprehensive and integrated approach is important to address violence nationally so that a broad based public understanding will be developed to reduce violence from the society. So BITA wants to develop a positive attitude among the people about the importance of gender based development intervention where women access and participation would strengthen community mobilization. For this to happen it is very important to create an enabling environment to improve the situation of women in the family and the society. A comprehensive awareness raising initiative especially campaign programs need to be wide spread at the local and national level based on a sound understanding of social relations and dynamics, roles, position and condition of women which will support equal participation, decision-making, and influence of women and men in the targeted household and community structures to have greater control over their lives. The project wishes to create mass awareness through cultural campaign, make community level Change Maker and volunteers who would build solidarity and collective actions towards realizing the rights of women and men and reducing gender discrimination, exploitation and violence against women and girls. Besides that a coalition and linkage with different stakeholders like professional groups, civil society, law enforcing authority, lawyer, journalist, NGOs, GOs, local government, CBOs, cultural forums, influential person and alliances.

Goal

To prevent violence against women by altering prevailing gender biased attitudes, customs and practices; and encourage popular movement to build wider social-change process.

Objectives

To identify and enroll 10,00,00 Change Maker and build their capacity to work for changing existing social and individual attitudes that accepts domestic violence against women as normal. To mobilize around 4675325 population including all sections of the family, community and society to act and prevent domestic violence against women. To develop a broad based alliance in Chittagong including representation of Press Club, Bar Association, Teachers Association and other civil society representatives to build mass campaign to end domestic violence.

Narrative Description of Project

The project is developed in cooperation between Save the Children Alliance partners for the period of May 2010-April 2013. The project addresses children of indigenous (ethnic) groups in Chittagong Hill Tract and will create access for the children to quality inclusive education and decent employment opportunities through involvement of NGO-partners who have the expertise in handling the relevant issues in a successful way. The development objective of the project is: ”Children of indigenous (ethnic) groups of Chittagong Hill Tract region have access to quality pre-primary and primary inclusive education and decent employment opportunities” A total of 4500 indigenous children between 4 -18 yrs, 4500 parents and related stakeholders including parents and community will be the target group of the project. The core activities of the project are Improved learning and promotion of livelihood oriented education, skill based capacity building, establishment of ICT and information centres and provide computer education. The project will also establish marketing linkages for the local self employed entrepreneurs. The project is developed in cooperation between Save the Children Alliance members. The project addresses children of indigenous groups in CHT and will, for the children, create access to quality inclusive education and decent employment opportunities by involving partner NGOs who have the expertise in handling the relevant issues in a successful way. It is expected that through the implementation of the project education service to the indigenous working children will be improved and a number of working children will be equipped for decent employment opportunities and that children will participate and express their views in decision making.

Objectives
